Information about Tutor Robert J. King, M.Div., Th.M., Ed.S.

My name is Robert J. King, and I have taught within online higher education since 2005.  I currently serve as Associate Faculty of Philosophy for University of Phoenix (Critical Thinking; 2009 - current).  Previous appointments have included Adjunct Professor of Religion and Philosophy (Ethics) for Hillsborough Community College, Dale Mabry and MacDill A.F.B. campuses (World Religions, Ethics; 2010 - 2012), and Adjunct Professor of Theology and Philosophy for Barry University's extension campuses, Tampa Bay area, FL (2009 - 2011),.  I also just completed my Ed.S. in Education (Ethics and Public Policy specialization; 2009 - 2012) toward the completion of an Ed.D. through Walden University (2016).

I am a former Div. 1-AA football player, having earned 3 varsity letters in football (3 year starter) and also 3 varsity letters in track & field at Davidson College, North Carolina (Class of 1994).  While at Davidson College I majored in Religion, was active in campus ministry and was selected as a Stuart Scholar (full tuition scholarship + paid summer internship in a Presbyterian Church in South Africa) for my junior and senior years.  From Davidson College I was then awarded a full tuition scholarship (Duke Scholar) to Duke University Divinity School where I received my M.Div. (1997) and Th.M. (2000) degrees.  I then went on to study for 3 years in the Ph.D. program at the University of Notre Dame (Moral Theology/Ethics with a Church History minor area of concentration), and I am now currently finishing Ed.D. studies (Education; Ethics) through Walden University (2016).

I have served as a United Methodist clergy (1997 - 2002), but more recently I have returned to the Roman Catholic Church, and I am thus a full-time educator (ethics; religion; theology; philosophy) while completing my Ed.D.  Both as a religious leader and as an instructor I have been heavily involved in a variety of humanitarian work to include church work just outside of Johannesburg, South Africa (1993), Mexico (1994; 2000), and Guatemala (1998, 1999, 2001).  I have presented peer-reviewed conference papers at several academic conferences to include the 300th Anniversary of John Wesley Conference (2003), The Wesleyan Theological Society (2004), and The American Experiment Religious Freedom Conference (2007) which had as its featured speaker Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. In 2010, I presented the paper, "Calvinism and Colonial Native American Religious Worldviews" at the Community College Humanities Association's Southern Division academic conference held in Arlington, VA in October 2010 (also included as a peer-reviewed journal article in the Fall 2011 volume of the C.C.H.A. humanities journal).  I also presented "Pullman: Catholic Teachings on the Labor Movement" at the October 2011
Community College Humanities Association's National academic conference held in Fort Worth, TX and ??Freedom is Our Lives: La Cristiada and Roman Catholic Historiography,?? presented at the October 2012 C.C.H.A. Southern Division Conference, Louisville, KY.  I also was invited to lecture at Barry University as part of their Social Justice lecture series and thus on November 5, 2012 I presented, "Pullman: Catholic Teachings on the Labor Movement, with Contemporary Applications" at the Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library at Barry's Main Campus in Miami, FL (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38C2ZV2KFLI&feature=youtu.be).  Finally, I have also published five ebooks on religious ethics and environmentalism (http://www.amazon.com/God-Green-Christian-Theological-ebook/dp/B0082S1W8G/ref=sr_1_14?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1336960364&sr=1-14 ), in religious ethics and moral philosophy (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0082XNRA2, http://www.amazon.com/DECONSTRUCTING-THE-GOOD-EPISTEMOLOGY-ebook/dp/B0082XRFKA/ref=sr_1_16?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1336961673&sr=1-16 and http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B6XIJAS ) and on economic justice (http://www.amazon.com/Written-Off-Student-Educators-ebook/dp/B00B6XIJAS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363480248&sr=8-1&keywords=Written+Off%3F++Robert+J.+King).

Finally, my "hobbies" include the Fine Arts, weight-lifting, resting on weekends, and going for walks along the water (i.e. I live five blocks from Tampa Bay).
