Information about Tutor Marti Romero
Ever since I returned to school in 2004 I have been involved in tutoring. It started with a study group where I guided most of the learning, to branching out to private one-on-one tutoring. I am currently involved in many different aspects of tutoring: Supplemental Education Services (SES) through a couple of companies, providing free tutoring to Title I students, Foster Services, providing home-work help and tutoring to students who are in foster care; working with a home-schooled sixth-grader teaching her Math, History and English, and private tutoring high school Geometry, and an ASVAB test student. Occasionally I also substitute at our local school district.
For four years I tutored math at a charter school whose students were at risk: those who had previously dropped out of high school and were working on credit retrieval, those who could not function in the regular classroom, young mothers and fathers, etc. I tutored everything from Basic Math up to Algebra II and Geometry.
In 2009 I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with a Math Emphasis. I did my two years at GCU online while working at the charter school.
I love math. I didn't always love math, so I can relate to those students who find it difficult and somewhat scary. My goal is to ensure my students understand the why behind the how, not just memorize steps. Math can be a lot less scary when you understand how and why it works the way it does.
