Information about Tutor Catherine Charnell
I earned my teaching credential in 1984. Before I went to university, I taught English in Mexico at an Institution. I liked it so much that I decided to go to university in Canada and took a major in Spanish and Linguistics. I also took courses in education and Teaching English as an Additional Language. After finishing university I went to teach in California and taught in their bilingual program. I returned to Canada and taught on a Native Reserve for 2 years, then to Victoria where I taught Spanish 9-12 and ESL. After that, I went to Vancouver and taught for 20 years. During this time I earned another degree-this time in Education. I took all the courses necessary to be fully qualified as an ESL teacher and teacher of learning disabilities. In Vancouver I taught ESL and Special Needs in different capacities ranging from grade 1 to grade 12. I was also a resource teacher and a regular classroom teacher. I took early retirement to teach privately and am currently doing that along with writing and translating. I tutor students in English writing, reading and speaking.
